Alecto and Amycus Carrow
Alecto and Amycus were part of the group of Death
Eaters that invaded Hogwarts in
June of 1997 (HBP27); Snape implies
that they were never sent to Azkaban (HBP2).
Last name confirmed by JKR (JKR).
Carrow, Alecto
The sister of Amycus Carrow. When Voldemort took over Hogwarts, Alecto
Carrow became the Muggle Studies teacher (DH12). Before the final Battle
of Hogwarts, Alecto was bound up by McGonagall and suspended in mid-air
in the Ravenclaw common room (DH30).
Alecto was one of the three Furies in Greek mythology. Her name means 'unceasing in anger' (EM).
Carrow, Amycus
Alecto Carrow's brother, a squat, "lumpy" looking
wizard with a lopsided leer and a wheezy giggle. When Voldemort took
over the Hogwarts in the fall of 1997, Amycus was made the Defense Against
the Dark Arts teacher, although he simply taught students to perform
the Dark Arts (DH12). Before the final Battle
of Hogwarts, Amycus was
bound up by McGonagall and suspended in mid-air in the Ravenclaw common
room (DH30).
Amycus was the son of Poseidon and the nymph Melia. He became the king of the Bebryces (a mythical people in Bithynia), and was very skilled in boxing (EM). Curiously, 'Amicus' (note the different spelling) is Latin for 'friend.'
