Welcome to another year at Hogwarts

It’s September the first, and young witches and wizards have converged on King’s Cross Station in London for the journey north to Hogwarts. Me, I’m just working through all the emails I’ve received with suggestions for edits, updates, corrections, and additions to the Lexicon. Unfortunately, there’s no Welcoming Feast awaiting me at the end of the day. On the other hand, I won’t have to travel the whole day on a train with nothing to eat but sweets from the trolley. I mean, seriously, I love Bertie Botts but for a day-long train trip I’d rather have a sandwich or two. Even corned beef. And maybe a nice ripe tomato. Okay, now I’m hungry. (If you enjoy the descriptions of food in Harry Potter like I do, you’ll appreciate the blog “Harry Potter Recipes“).

So another Hogwarts year begins. Let’s see, the defeat of Voldemort was in 1998, which is eleven years ago. The children starting school today will have been born, then, during that final terrifying year of danger and suspicion and war. Harry’s year was similar, having been born in 1980, at the height of Voldemort’s first rise to power. I wonder if the number of students this year is fairly small, just as the number of kids in Harry’s year seems to have been quite small. Ah, the fun of speculating and discussing Harry Potter!

    Excellent post. This really hadn’t
occured to me before. It’s kinda fun
to speculate on things based on what
    we know.

    Hi Steve!

Thank you very very much for noting my website here! I appreciate it very much.

I hope people will be able to benefit from it, and I’m working on improving it :)

    Thank you again :)

That’s right, Teddy’s off to Hogwarts! I wonder what house he got sorted in?

  5. JML Says:

My guess would be Gryffindor, since his dad was in Gryffindor, and he would have a lot of Gryffindor influence around him, what with Harry, Ginny and the Weasley family around. :)

  6. hpboy13 Says:

Maybe so, but Tonks was a Hufflepuff, and he was raised by his grandma Andromeda (wonder what house SHE was in…) so I’d say Hufflepuff is just as good a guess.

  7. Quentin Says:

Keep up to good work, dear Steve. ;-)

  8. Quentin Says:

    I meant “the”…

  9. Weaslylover Says:

Teddy’s grandma Andromeda would have been in Slytherin. She was Sirius’s cousin, and was blasted off the tapestry for marrying a muggle.

  10. Pittsburghmuggle Says:

There might be a HUGE number of students - people kept in and hiding from the authorities. Remember Arthur and Molly got married because no one knew what would be happening next.

  11. Changeling Says:

Andromeda a Slytherin? You’re joking! She would probably have been a Griffindor; I don’t know about you, but I think it’d take courage for a Black to marry a Muggle-born!

    Good luck, Teddy!

  12. Princess Says:

I think Andromeda was in Slytherin, Jo said ALL of the Blacks except Sirius, and Slughorn said all of Sirius’s family had been in Slytherin and that he would have liked the set. I agree with Weaslylover, and Changeling is right, it would take courage for a Black to marry a Muggle-born, but Andromeda, being a Slytherin, would know how to get what she wanted. And as Dumbledore said, I sometimes think we sort too early.

I just updated my recipes website slightly by adding a new banner to it folks. If any of you know of recipes that I haven’t added that you love, please tell me :)

  14. Mari Says:

Well, won’t Lily Potter Jr. and Rose Weasley be going too?

  15. tracy Says:

just because Andromeda was a “Black” does not necessarily put her in Slytherin. Sirius was sorted into Gryffindor

  16. Andromeda Granger Says:

I got into Ravenclaw.Malfoy got a detention in Herbology today.
