I always wonder what made Rowlings choose particulair dates as birthdays for her characters. In case of Pomona Sprout I think I have a clue.

Mai 15 is the first day after what we call the Ice Saints,( St.Mamertus,St Pancratius, St.Servatius & St. Bonifatius) In folk lore the last days of the year there is a change of frost at night, after which it is safe to put the non-perennials plants into the ground or the geraniums on the balcony.

They’ve changed the background noise. There are new birds and more distinctly there is a sound of traffic passing as the page loads/while it is windy. First time I’ve noticed it.

Well, Pomona Sprout and I share a birthday :) She’s a good character as far as we know so I’m not worried about sending the wrong message to the world ( Hey, you know what ? Voldemort and I have the same birthday, isn’t that cool ? ).

The way JKR chooses birthdays may never be confirmed officially, with all the hysteria about the books promoting the ‘occult’. But a well-known process is certainly at work. No doubt about it. I hope Jo will shed some light on it one day, but I certainly understand if she doesn’t. A good magician doesn’t reveal all their secrets.
