Wombat 1 = 0
Wombat 2 = E
Wombat 3 = E
I laughed when I saw the test was called a wombat - being an Aussie, I wondered about the reputation of the animal - they aren’t known to be all that smart, but can get a bit cranky as they get older (as do we all )

Yes, they are part of canon. We need canon information to get answers right and I remember that Steve considerered them as a new canon: I wish all the questions were this straightforward. However, from this question we can infer that Inferi can speak, that Goblins do not fear sunlight, that there are female centaurs, and that vampire bites are incurable. “Love finding out new canon, even if it’s tiny little tidbits like this.” - That’s his answer to first question on WOMBAT 2.

I don’t think we have much reason to doubt the canonity of the W.O.M.B.A.T. tests as themselves - after all, the information on them is written by Rowling herself. The question is, what exactly is the tests’ function in wizarding world? I think it’s quite clear W.O.M.B.A.T. is not part of the formal education, Hogwarts that is. As hpboy13 argued, it should have been mentioned in the books already if such was the case; and besides, the pupils graduating from Hogwarts have to sit N.E.W.T.S. anyway. So, I would suppose W.O.M.B.A.T. is a test for example for people who have not passed through Hogwarts for variety of reasons: they might be home-schooled, or somehow incapacitated. Maybe Hagrid has sat through W.O.M.B.A.T. test some time or another. Maybe W.O.M.B.A.T. is also used to determine if immigrating wizard-folk is well enough versed in British wizarding ways and traditions. Probably some (or even most of?) jobs need the applicant to have passed through W.O.M.B.A.T.(s) well enough, at least in the case the applicant can’t present good grades from any school of magic.

Wombat 1 = 0
Wombat 2 = E
Wombat 3 = E
I laughed when I saw the test was called a wombat - being an Aussie, I wondered about the reputation of the animal - they aren’t known to be all that smart, but can get a bit cranky as they get older (as do we all

And we can be happy for Fred and George, their store is now recommended as an equal to Flourish & Blotts or Nimbus.

Am I the only who believes that anyone who got an O on all 3 deserves a stupendous prize? I’m not sure if anyone did (at least without cheating), but anyone who’s that dedicated (or lucky, depends how you look at it), shoudl get to like read a chapter fo DH or something. Oly 25 more days now…

I totally agree hpboy13, those who are dedicated and pass the third and final W.O.M.B.A.T. should get a totally stupendous prize!
